Biography

Working primarily in painting and drawing, Moosa Al Halyan is known for Surrealist compositions that often feature horses. Employing horses to depict a range of emotions represents Al Halyan’s attempt to move beyond a focus on any particular race or group of people.

Al Halyan’s work has been exhibited at the UAE Pavilion, 56th Venice Biennale (2015); Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh, Dhaka (1996); Sharjah Biennials 2 and 3 (1995, 1997); sixth GCC Youth Exhibition, Abu Dhabi (1990); UAE University exhibition, Al Ain (1990); annual exhibition of the Emirates Fine Arts Society (1990); Teacher’s Society Exhibition, Khor Fakkan (1988); UAE University exhibition, Al Ain (1988); annual exhibitions of the Emirates Fine Arts Society (1984, 1986, 1987, 1988); second Al Banoosh Exhibition, Dubai (1984) and Arab Youth Festival, Riyadh (1982). His work has also been shown in Madrid, Muscat, Bahrain and Khartoum.

He has won the award for the Most Creative Employee in the Dubai Government’s Excellence Programme on two occasions (2013, 2006); third prize in The UAE in the Eyes of Its Artists, Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation (1998) and the top prize at the GCC Fine Arts Exhibition (1988). Al Halyan is a member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society and also works as a graphic designer.

Al Halyan was born in 1969 in Dubai, where he continues to live and work.
