Biography

Primarily regarded as a video artist, Giuseppe Moscatello has also worked with photography, painting and installation. For the 2009 Sharjah Biennial he created Noor, a four-part light and video installation that explored social conventions and issues of private and public space in the UAE. In recent works he has also used traditional henna patterns on large format PVC.

Moscatello has had solo exhibitions at Condotto C, Rome (2010), Museo Laboratorio di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea della Sapienza, Rome (2006), and group presentations including Sharjah Biennial (2009), Alexandria Biennial, Egypt (2009), Palazzo di Pietra, Rome (2003), Centro Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea Castello Colonna di Genazzano (2002), and Galleria Comunale d' Arte Contemporanea di Ciampino (2001). Between 2005 -07 he worked in collaboration with renowned Italian artist Fabio Mauri (1926 -2009) on major projects including performance and video installations in the Hangar Bicocca, Milan (2007) and the Auditorium, Rome (2007). He has also produced videos and documentaries about artists, and has recently curated several exhibitions featuring young Emirati artists at Sharjah's Maraya Art Centre.

Giuseppe Moscatello was born in Botrugno, in the Lecce Apuglia region, Italy in 1979 and received a BFA from the Accademia delle Belle Arti, Rome, in 2003. He currently lives and works in Sharjah and Italy.
