Biography
Magdi Mostafa’s practice focuses primarily on site-specific, research-driven installation and performance projects, multimedia installations and experimental ‘sound-based’ works.
Mostafa’s work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions, including New Sensorium, ZKM Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany (2016); Echoes and Reverberations, Hayward Gallery Project Space, London (2015); Biennale de Lyon, France (2015); Surface of Spectral Scattering, Townhouse Gallery, Cairo (2014), Biennale Jogja, Indonesia (2014); Sharjah Biennial 11 (2013) and Egypt's Salon Prize (installation art), Cairo (2007, 2009).
He has participated in residencies at the Bronx Museum, New York; DAAD, Berlin; Delfina Foundation, London; Cittadellarte, Biella, Italy; Hangar Multimedia Centre, Barcelona and Alanica annual art symposium, Russia. His sound compositions have been featured on several international radio stations, including Saout Africa, the dOCUMENTA (13) radio programme, Kassel (2017).
Mostafa holds a bachelor’s degree in art education from Helwan University, Cairo (2004). Born in 1982 in Tanta, Egypt, he currently lives and works in Cairo.
