Biography
Jean-Luc Moulène studied Aesthetics and Sciences of Art at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, where he continues to live and work. Since the early 1980s, he has produced a vast repertoire of work grounded in a critical exploration of authorship, as well as an engagement with notions of autonomy, immanence and anarchic politics.
Moulène’s work has been exhibited widely. His most recent solo exhibitions were hosted by the Dia Art Foundation and Modern Art Oxford. Opus + One at Dia:Beacon, New York (2012) is the first comprehensive solo exhibition of Moulène’s work in North America. Jean-Luc Moulène at Modern Art Oxford was on view in Oxford, UK (2012).
Moulène’s work has been previously shown in solo exhibitions at institutions including, Carré d’art-Musée d’art contemporain, Nîmes, France (2009), Culturgest, Lisbon, Portugal (2007), Musée du Louvre, Paris (2005), Center for Contemporary Art, Kitakyushu, Japan (2004), and Centre d’Art Contemporain de Genève, Switzerland (2003).
He has participated in group exhibitions at, MuMa, Le Havre, France (2011), Sharjah Biennial 10, UAE (2011), CAC Brétigny, Brétigny-sur-Orge, Paris (2011), Kunstverein Nürnberg, Nuremberg, Germany (2010), The Centre national d'art et de culture Georges Pompidou, Paris (2010, 2007), Musée du Petit Palais, Paris (2007), Landesmuseum Joanneum GmbH Kunsthaus, Graz, Austria (2007), Grand Palais, Paris (2006), Ateliers d’artistes de la ville de Marseille, France (2006), Musée du Montparnasse, Paris (2006), La Vigie, Sharjah Biennial (2010).
