Biography
Founded in 2009 in Amman, naqsh is the joint endeavour of sisters and co-founders Nisreen and Nermeen Abu Dail. Translated from Arabic, ‘naqsh’ means ‘engraving’, which was the first form of lasting artwork created by humanity. Tapping into a rich heritage and affording it new meaning, naqsh is at the crossroads between age-old Arab design practices and a clean, contemporary aesthetic, which repositions elements of Middle Eastern art, architecture and heritage in a minimalist frame.
The artists have shown their work in international museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; and Dar El-Nimer for Arts & Culture, Beirut. naqsh was shortlisted as one of the eight finalists for the Jameel Prize 5 at the Victoria and Albert Museum and has participated in art and design events such as Milan Design Week, Abu Dhabi Art, Design Days Dubai, Amman Design Week and Art Dubai.
