Biography
Sociopolitical themes such as identity politics, the abuse of power and historical amnesia have long been key concerns in the conceptual works of Ahmad Fuad Osman, which encompass print, video, sculpture and installation. Drawing on historical accounts, texts and archives, Osman pieces together fragments of evidence and conflicting narratives to open up possibilities for contesting and rewriting established canons.
Osman’s work has been shown in a number of exhibitions, including An Atlas of Mirrors, Singapore Biennale (2016–2017); Multiple Languages, Silverlens Gallery, Manila (2014) and Welcome to the Jungle: Contemporary Art in Southeast Asia from the Collection of Singapore Art Museum, Yokohama Museum of Art, Japan (2013).
His works are part of the collections of the National Visual Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur; Petronas Gallery, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore Art Museum. Osman’s work Recollections of Long Lost Memories won the Jurors’ Choice Award at the APBF Signature Art Prize, Singapore (2008).
He has participated in residencies at Rimbun Dahan, Sungai Buloh, Malaysia (2007–2008); Goyang National Art Studio, Korea (2005–2006) and Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, US (2004). He holds a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the Universiti Technologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Malaysia (1991).
Born in Kedah, Malaysia in 1969, Osman currently lives and works between Bali and Kuala Lumpur.
