Biography

Selma and Sofiane Ouissi both attended the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Tunis before moving to Paris to study with Raza Hamadi at L’Espace Pléiade. The duo has performed with major Tunisian and international theatre directors and choreographers, including Fadhel Jaziri, Martino Muller, Hichem Rostom and Compagnie Michèle Anne de Mey. They have appeared at venues and performing-arts platforms around the world, such as Théatre de la Ville de Paris; Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels, Belgium; Tanzquartier Wien, Austria; Danse à Aix, Frances; Bouffes du Nord, Paris; and Festival de Carthage, Tunisia.

Their own creations include STOP . . . BOOM (2004) and Waçl (2007), which was performed at Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, Germany and KVS,Brussels, among other places. Their video Laaroussa, 2011 – in which they perform choreographed movements patterned after the repetitive gestures of women potters in Sejnane, northwest Tunisia – was featuredin Intense Proximity, La Triennale, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2012). In 2007, Selma and Sofiane Ouissi created Dream City, a multidisciplinary festival in Tunis, and in 2010, they launched the arts magazine ZAT.
