Biography
Philippe Rahm is an architect whose work extends architecture and meteorology into the context of sustainability.
His work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions, including The Anthropocene Style, San Francisco Art Institute (2018); The Effusivity Pool, Swiss Institute, Milan (2018); Eco-Visionaries, The Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Lisbon (2018); Thermodynamic Tectonic: The Emissivity Clothing, Chicago Architecture Biennale (2017); The Anthropocene Style, Seoul Architecture Biennale (2017); Listen Hear: The Art of Sound, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (2017) and Sketch for Syria, Università Iuav di Venezia, Venice (2017). His work can be found in the collections of Centre Pompidou, Paris; Maxxi Rome; Frac Centre, Orléans and The Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal.
Among his publications are Constructed atmospheres (Postmedia, 2014), Architecture météorologique, (Archibooks, 2009), Environ(ne)ment: Approaches for Tomorrow (Skira, 2006), Distortions (HYX, 2005) and Physiological architecture (Birkhaüser, 2002).
Rahm held a Jean Labatut Professorship at Princeton University (2010–2012) and was visiting professor at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (2010–2011); School of Architecture, Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen (2009–2010), Domain of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology, Lausanne (2006–2007) and Mendrisio Academy of Architecture, Switzerland (2004, 2006). He also served as Headmaster at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London (2005–2006) and has lectured widely at institutions such as Yale University, Cooper Union, UCLA and the Domain of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology, Zurich.
He has been awarded a Graham Foundation grant, Chicago (2018), the Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite Culturel, Monaco (2017) and an Iconic Award, German Design Council, Jade Eco Park, Germany (2014). He served as Chairman of the Pro Helvetia jury for the Swiss participation in the Venice Biennale (2011–2015)
Born in 1967 in Pully, Switzerland, Rahm currently lives and works in Paris.
