Raeda Saadeh

Biography

Raeda Sa’adeh’s work is mainly rooted in photography, performance and video, and the artist uses her own body as the core subject of most of her work. ‘Woman’ is a recurring subject in her installations and performance pieces, where she is represented as living in a state of occupation. This occupation or ‘occupying’ force is effected through political conditions in her environment and impacts on the otherwise peaceful quality of her world. Both private and public elements manipulate this world.

Her exhibitions include Fluid Form II, Busan Museum of Art, Seoul (2014); Light from the Middle East, Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2012); Re-Orientations: Contemporary Arab Representations, European Parliament, Brussels (2008); No Man’s Land, GEMAK Museum, The Hague (2008); In Transit, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2008); Biennale Cuvée, OK Centre for Contemporary Art, Linz, Austria (2008); Infr’Action – Festival International d’Art Performance, Sète, France (2007); About Time II, Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum, Aalborg, Denmark (2007); Sharjah Biennial 8 (2007) and 15th Biennale of Sydney (2006).

Sa’adeh was the recipient of the first Young Artist of the Year Award, A. M. Qattan Foundation, London/Ramallah (2000).

She received her BFA and MFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. Born in 1977 in Um El Fahem, Sa’adeh currently lives and works in Jerusalem.
