Biography
Interested in how technology affects perception, filmmaker and artist Roy Samaha explores the non-linear relationships between images, memory and history through embodied experience.
His work has been shown in many international festivals and exhibitions, including Sharjah Biennial 13 (2017); International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2017); Cruel Weather: Arab Middle East Film Festival, Aberdeen, Scotland (2009); Meeting Points 5, Brussels/Berlin/Egypt (2009); La Rencontre Internationale, Paris/Madrid/Berlin (2007), Singapore Biennale (2006) and Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2003).
He studied for a master’s degree in film studies at USEK, Kaslik, Lebanon (1998-2006) and was awarded an apexart Fellowship (2010). He worked in television news and broadcasting (1998-2008) and has presented seminars about alternative video practices at several Lebanese universities.
He was born in 1978 in Beirut, where he continues to live and work.
