Biography

Working mainly in film, Larissa Sansour also produces installations, photos and sculptures. Central to her work is the tug and pull between fiction and reality, and in her recent work, she uses science fiction to address social and political issues in the Middle East.

Recent solo exhibitions of her work have been presented at the Bluecoat, Liverpool (2017); Chapter, Cardiff (2017); New Art Exchange, Nottingham (2016); Mosaic Rooms, London (2016) and Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen (2016), among others. Sansour’s work has also been featured at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017); Yinchuan Biennale, China (2016); Townhouse, Cairo (2012); Louisiana Museum of Contemporary Art, Humlebaek, Denmark (2011); MOCA, Hiroshima (2011); Jeu de Paume, Paris (2010); Liverpool Biennial (2010); Tate Modern, London (2009); 11th Istanbul Biennial (2009) and National Museum of Queen Sofia, Madrid (2008).

She earned a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, US (1995) and an MA in Fine Art from New York University (2000). She also studied figurative art at Byam Shaw, London (1992) and art history and criticism at the University of Baltimore (1998). She was a visiting student at the Royal Art Academy, Copenhagen (1999).

Born in 1973 in East Jerusalem, Sansour currently lives and works between Copenhagen and London.
