Biography
Tomoko Sauvage works on ‘natural synthesisers’ that she has invented—waterbowls that combine water, ceramics and hydrophones (underwater microphones).
Sauvage's installation work has been exhibited at the Museo Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Mexico City (2017) and Empty Gallery, Hong Kong (2017). She has performed at several international festivals and venues, including the Roskilde Festival, Denmark (2019); The Long Now - MaerzMusik, Berlin (2018); Unsound Festival, Krakow, Poland (2018); Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Latvia (2018); Nyege Nyege Festival, Jinja, Uganda (2018) and Centre Pompidou-Metz, France (2017).
Sauvage has published two solo albums: Musique Hydromantique (Shelter Press, 2017) and Ombrophilia (either/OAR, 2009). Her compositions have been broadcast on radio and television by the BBC, France Musique, NPR and ORF.
Sauvage was the artist in residence at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, US (2016).
She received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the International Christian University, Tokyo (1998), and participated in the Jazz and Contemporary Music Program at the New School, New York (2000).
Born in 1976 in Yokohama, Japan, she lives and works in Paris.
