Biography

Shayma Hamad (b. 1997, Ramallah) is a multidisciplinary artist, activist and lawyer. Currently, she is focusing on Food in Law, a project that brings together audiences to experience and index knowledge through taste. A law graduate from Birzeit University, Hamad merges legal perspectives into her performance art, deconstructing history to explore identity and belonging. Inspired by relational aesthetics, Hamad’s work invites audiences to form new meanings and values, and empowers them to effect cultural and social change. Her most recent work—resulting from Hamad's residency at Dar Yusuf Nasri Jacir for Art and Research under the guidance of artist Emily Jacir—will be exhibited at the forthcoming Venice Biennale (2024). Hamad received the Prince Claus Award (2023) for her ongoing project, Agricultural Calendar, underscoring its profound impact on environmental and political dimensions.
