Biography
Sigil is a collective based in Beirut and New York City. Through a series of visual, representational and site-specific interventions, they seek to explore the extraordinary metamorphoses, simultaneously marvelous and terrifying, of the Arab landscape as the site of contemporary and historical struggles. Since 2014, they have been engaged in building humble architectures of resistance in Syria, including water wells and electricity generating windmills. Sigil are also the creators behind the revolution is a mirror, a physical magnet and associated social media account that documents its worldwide distribution, providing a space for people to reflect on their roles in contemporary affairs. In addition to multiple collaborators, the core group is comprised of Khaled Malas (architect and art historian), Salim al-Kadi (architect), Alfred Tarazi (artist) and Jana Traboulsi (graphic artist).
