Biography
SPURSE is a creative design consultancy group that focuses on social, ecological and ethical transformation. The group works to empower communities, institutions, infrastructures and ecologies with tools and adaptive solutions for system-wide change. Drawing upon their diverse backgrounds spanning the fields of science, art and design, SPURSE utilises unique and immersive methods to co-produce new ecologies, urban environments, public art, experimental visioning, strategic development, alternative educational models and expanded configurations of the commons. They have collaborated with communities, organisations and individuals from places as varied as the High Arctic and inner cities of Bolivia. Their award-winning projects reveal an astonishing range of creative solutions for effecting real change: tools, clothing, furniture and houses, restaurants, wetlands, wayfinding apps, urban renewal programmes, food systems interventions, microbiology laboratories, cookbooks and more. SPURSE has exhibited internationally and been published in a number of books and journals, including The Interventionists, The Object of Labor, Experimental Geography, The International Encyclopedia of Human Geography, Surface, ID, The New York Times, Elle, Tema Celeste, Art Papers, Monitor, Interior Design and Art Journal. Most recently they have published the speculative historico-philosophical cookbook Eat Your Sidewalk.
