Adeela Suleman

Biography

Adeela Suleman is a visual artist, working primarily in sculpture. Often incorporating organic elements such as birds and flowers, her work reflects the fragile nature of the human condition in the face of the disruption and violence of contemporary society.

Suleman’s work has been exhibited at Sullivan+Strumpf, Singapore (2019); Manchester Art Gallery, UK (2017); Gandhara-Art Gallery, Karachi (2017); Galleria Davide Gallo, Milan (2017); Karachi Biennale (2017); Aicon Gallery, New York (2014, 2017); Singapore Biennale (2016); Canvas Gallery, Karachi (2012, 2015); Asian Art Biennial, Taichung, Taiwan (2013); SEA+ Triennale, Jakarta (2013); Asian Art Museum, San Francisco (2012); Devi Art Foundation, Gurgaon, India (2011); Asia Triennial Manchester, UK (2011); Asia Society, New York (2009) and 2nd Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial, Japan (2002), among others.

Her works are in the collections of institutions such as Devi Art Foundation, Gurgaon, India; Kiran Nader Museum of Art, New Delhi; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Orlando Museum of Art, US; Flame Towers, Baku, Azerbaijan; Manchester Art Gallery, UK; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich and The Kier Foundation, Sydney.

Suleman is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Fine Art, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi. She is a founding member and director of Vasl Artists’ Association, Karachi.

Suleman received her BFA from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi (1999) and her MA in International Relations from Karachi University (1995). She was born in 1970 in Karachi, where she continues to live and work.
