Biography
Teboho Mahlatsi is the director of The Bomb Shelter Film Company (Pty) Ltd. He has written, produced and directed many projects, including the documentary Ghetto Diaries for the South African educational channel SABC Education TV.
His debut film, Portrait of a Young Man Drowning (1999) won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival (1999). He was the co-creator and a director on the three seasons of the South African television phenomenon, Yizo Yizo, a youth drama series that garnered the highest ratings in the history of South African television. At the Cinema Tout Ecrand Awards, Yiso Yiso won best International series.
His other works include Meet South Africa. Meet Bheki: The Mbhaco Maker (2017); Shuga (2009–2012), Sekalli le Meokgo (Meokgo and the Stick Fighter) (2006); A-Z – A Commentary on Post-Apartheid South Africa (2001); Ungshaya Ding Dong (2000); and White City Black Lives (1997).
He received the Tribute entertainment achiever of the year award (2002) and was honoured for groundbreaking work in the Audiovisual and Creative field at the USIBA Awards (2018).
Mahlatsi graduated from the Africa Cultural Centre Film & Television Course in Johannesburg (1993).
