Biography
Eric van Hove studied at the École de Recherche Graphique, Brussels, received an MA in Traditional Japanese Calligraphy from the Tokyo Gakugei University and holds a PhD from the Tokyo University of the Arts (2008). Acknowledging transcendentalist influences throughout his conceptual practice, van Hove’s approach seeks to oppose Eurocentric perspectives that prevail in the Western contemporary art world with a more spiritual and decentralised approach. Having created site-specific works in over 100 countries by the age of 35, van Hove is among the most travelled artists of his generation. In 2016, his Marrakech atelier started working on what the artist calls ‘The Mahjouba Initiative’, a long-term post-Fordist project that combines African craft, 3D printing and industrial production.
