Biography

Anton Vidokle has been collaborating with Pelin Tan on research, publication, film and education projects since 2004. He and Tan see film as a discursive platform that conveys concepts and ideas through speculative narratives of the future, present and past. Researching topics such as immortality and the end of humanity in relation to art and visual culture, genres of filmmaking and territorial contexts is vital to their understanding of filmmaking.

Vidokle’s work has been presented at a number of festivals and museums, including Forum Expanded, Berlinale (2016, 2020); Latvian Center for Contemporary Art, Riga (2019); Lincoln Center, New York (2019); MMCA Seoul (2019); Blaffer Art Museum, Houston, US (2018); Tensta konsthall, Stockholm (2018); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2016, 2018); Bergen Assembly, Norway (2013, 2018); Sharjah Biennial 13 (2017); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2017); Tate Modern, London (2017); Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2013, 2017); Gwangju Biennale (2012, 2016); 56th Venice Biennale (2015); Istanbul Biennial (2015); Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2015); Shanghai Biennale (2010, 2012, 2014); and dOCUMENTA (13) (2012). He was awarded the Noon Award at the Gwangju Biennale (2016).

Vidokle is the founder of the publishing platform e-flux. He studied fine art at the School of Visual Arts and pursued graduate studies at Hunter College. Both institutions are in New York.

Born in 1965 in Moscow, Vidokle lives and works between New York and Berlin.
