Biography

In her work, Haegue Yang has employed ready-made objects such as fans, humidifiers, venetian blinds, clothing racks and building materials, customising them with found matter, colour, handmade forms and sensory choreography. At the heart of these works is always a unique play on human experience through temporality and spatialisation.
Yang’s recent solo exhibitions include Journal of Bouba/kiki, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Glasgow, Scotland (2013); Art Wall: Haegue Yang, The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (2013); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Strasbourg (2013); Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen (2013); The Tanks: Art in Action, Tate Modern, London (2012) and Voice and Wind, New Museum, New York (2010).

Selected group exhibitions include Taipei Biennale (2014); Mediacity Seoul (2014); National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon, Korea (2014); Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (2013); dOCUMENTA, Kassel (2012); Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2012) and the Venice Biennale (2009).

She received her BFA in 1994 from Seoul National University in Korea and her MFA from Städelschule in Germany in 1999.

Born in 1971 in Seoul, Haegue Yang lives and works in Berlin and Seoul.
