Biography
Filmmaker Rami Yasin focuses on developing, directing and producing independent Arab cinema. He believes films are a bridge to knowledge and understanding that is essential to the integration of future generations into the world.
After eight years in the advertising industry, Yasin worked as the head of production at Filmworks Dubai for eight years before moving on to focus on independent Arab cinema. He currently works as an independent filmmaker and collaborates with other filmmakers in the region and the world. Yasin’s work has been shown at international film festivals in cities such as Berlin, Venice, London, Toronto and Los Angeles.
His short film In Overtime, which had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival (2014), received a special jury mention at the Dubai International Film Festival (2014) and won the Golden Pelican for best dramatic work at the Mykonos Biennale (2015). Yasin’s feature film, A Dog’s Tail, won a development award from the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival as well as production prize money from the Royal Film Commission - Jordan.
Yasin is a fellow of the Global Media Makers programme and actively guides students who aspire to be filmmakers. Most recently, he was a panelist at the first Global Media Makers Summit, held during the Cairo International Film Festival (2018).
Yasin holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Richmond University, London (with a commendation for the Dean’s Award), and a diploma in film directing from the New York Film Academy. He also has a diploma in writing for film and television from the Vancouver Film School.
Born in 1967 in Riyadh, he currently lives and works between the UAE, Jordan and Canada.
