Biography
Often making use of humble materials, such as discarded wood, broken bottles and sentimental song lyrics, Bae Young-whan considers aspects of Korean society and history.
His work has been exhibited at the Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul (2012); National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung (2011); Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2009); New Museum, New York (2009); Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, USA (2008); Kunsthalle Darmstadt, Germany (2005); Venice Biennale (2005); Gwangju Biennale, Korea (2004) and the de Appel Arts Centre, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2003).
