Biography
A self-taught artist, Hisham Youssef uses his experience in furniture making and building restoration to create mostly wooden sculptures, ranging in size from two inches to sixty feet. Reflecting his exploration of themes of utility and connections between past and present, Youssef’s sculptures comprise human figures and historical transport as well as more abstract forms.
Youssef has had solo exhibitions at BOTTLE WORKS, Johnstown, US (2016) and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, US (2015). His work has also been shown as part of group exhibitions at the 58th Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art, US (2015); Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Biennial, Loretto, US (2014); 57th Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art, US (2014); 103rd Annual Exhibition, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Greensburg, US (2014) and 99th Annual Exhibition, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, US (2009), where he received the Tillie S. Speyer Award.
Youssef was born in 1959 in Pittsburgh, where he currently lives and works.
