Overview
The work consists of the installation of made-up jigsaws bought from charity shops in the English West Country where jigsaw making is still a popular pastime for an older generation. Completed, the jigsaws seem to offer a rather traditional, iconic (within a fairly narrow cultural range), set of pictures: landscapes, cottages, gardens in bloom, palaces in formal settings, city lights, and sentimental images of childhood, holidays and pets.
Brought together, out of private living rooms into public space, remade - their fragility preserved - they are placed together in a formal arrangement where their uniform surface, careful construction and shared subjective emotional images have a certain beauty - and tension.
