Overview
Nil Yalter’s works offer a compelling feminist viewpoint on the socioeconomic conditions that affect migratory populations and female labourers. Her ground- breaking work Exile Is a Hard Job is presented in two iterations, both showing images of Turkish immigrants and exiles in Paris from 1977. In this version, images of immigrants and exiles are flyposted, with the work’s title painted over them in red. The same work can be found across different sites surrounding the Sharjah Biennial 15 venues. In the second iteration, exhibited in Al Mureijah Square, the images are printed on fabric with the title rendered in neon light.
