Overview
Tourism commercials define the subjectivity of the traveler, telling us where to have fun, how to relax and which historical sites to admire. A large selection of these visual fictions were split into pieces and analysed, each clip tagged with its content and the tags then used to create a network map of shared concepts. Such a cartography also enables a new technique of montage, creating a generic construct of 'vacation'.
Monovacation consists of three parts: the original tourism commercials that were used as data, presented in grid form; a digital print of the network map of tags created by content analysis of each clip; and a generic video of a vacation as edited via network analysis.
