Overview
Two works by Artists Nika Oblak and Primož Novak were shown in Sharjah Biennial 9: The Box and Going South – From Ljubljana to Sharjah. The Box is an installation that combines video, a pneumatic system and custom-made software to give the impression that the Artists are trapped inside a monitor and trying to escape. A video shows the pair kicking and punching the edges of the screen, while a synchronised pneumatic mechanism pokes the casing of the monitor from within. The 2D image is therefore transferred into the actual space of the gallery.
Working together since 2002, Slovenian Artists Nika Oblak and Primož Novak often place themselves at the centre of work that explores the seductive appeal of the media and the promotion of personal ambition in capitalist society. They use the mediums, techniques and visual languages of advertising while experimenting with new ways of working with photography, video, installation, film computer or robotics.
