Overview
This exhibition guide documents Aïda Muluneh’s exhibition Homebound: A Journey in Photography held at the Sharjah Art Museum from 23 March to 30 May 2020. The publication includes forewords by Hoor Al Qasimi and Manal Ataya, an introduction by curator Salah M. Hassan, as well as brief descriptions of the works on view at the exhibition.
Homebound: A Journey in Photography, conceived in two parts, chronicles Muluneh’s journey as an artist and a photojournalist, and her multiple contributions to imaging and image-making in photographic-based works since her return to her homeland Ethiopia in 2007, after years of living, studying and practicing in North America.

This exhibition features several series of Muluneh’s photographic works and a selection of other contemporary African photographs that have been exhibited and/or commissioned by Addis Foto Fest (AFF), a photography biennial founded by Muluneh in 2010, over the past decade.
Al Qasimi, Hoor
Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, established the Foundation in 2009 as a catalyst and advocate for the arts in Sharjah, in the region and around the world.

Manal Ataya is a museum professional with over 15 years of senior executive experience in museum development and cultural diplomacy.

Art historian, critic and curator Salah M. Hassan is Director of The Africa Institute, Sharjah, and Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences in Africana Studies and the Department of History of Art and Visual Studies, Cornell University.
