I Look To You And I See Nothing was an exhibition curated by Olivier Varenne and Nicole Durling, and marked a collaboration between Sharjah Art Foundation and MONA, Tasmania. Combining light, fog, touch and augmented reality, the exhibition aimed to challenge and distort the sensory affect of visitors’ bodies. This publication accompanied the exhibition and includes forewords by Hoor Al Qasimi and David Walsh, followed by a short essay from Varenne, as well as descriptions and visuals of the works that were on view.
This exhibition features immersive sound environments, light installations and contemplative spaces that explore the boundaries of the viewer’s perception.
Artists Ivana Franke and Gregorio Zanon, and Co-curators Olivier Varenne and Nicole Durling discuss the role of multi sensory experiential works and how they shape our perception.
Olivier Varenne is a Senior Curator with the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania, Australlia.
Nicole Durling has curated and developed projects including music festivals, sound art performances, ephemeral interventions and permanent commissions.
Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, established the Foundation in 2009 as a catalyst and advocate for the arts in Sharjah, in the region and around the world.
