Overview
This publication documents the 14th edition of March Meeting, Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual convening of artists and art practitioners to explore critical issues in contemporary art through panels, lectures and performances. It includes a foreword by Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, an introduction to the conference, a schedule of the programme and biographical information on the panelists.
The Afterlives of the Postcolonial was the overarching theme of March Meeting 2022 (MM 2022), which examined the persistent legacies of colonialism as well as emerging issues that have impacted recent global cultural, aesthetic and artistic practices. MM 2022 expanded on the theme of March Meeting 2021: Unravelling the Present. It also engaged the theoretical framework of Sharjah Biennial 15: Thinking Historically in the Present laid out by Okwui Enwezor (1963–2019) in 2018, in relation to his conception of the ‘Postcolonial Constellation’.
March Meeting 2022 speakers included Surafel Abebe, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, David Adjaye, John Akomfrah, Awam Amkpa, Brook Andrew, Anjali Arondekar, Ngaire Blankenberg, CAMP, Tina Campt, Carolina Caycedo, Zahid Chaudhary, Iftikhar Dadi, Angela Davis, Muriam Haleh Davis, TJ Demos, Naminata Diabate, Manthia Diawara, Ntone Edjabe, Noura Erakat, Elizabeth W.
