Overview

This publication accompanied the 15th edition of March Meeting, Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual convening of artists and art practitioners to explore critical issues in contemporary art through panels, lectures and performances. Titled The Postcolonial Constellation: Art, Culture, Politics after 1960, this guide contains a Foreword by Hoor Al Qasimi, an introduction to the conference, a schedule of the programme and biographical information on the panelists.

MM 2023 examined the forces that have shaped the production and reception of art across the world from 1960 to the present. It offered a discursive space to explore artistic, political and cultural positions traversing subalternity and self-determination, First Nation and Indigenous practices, creolisation, hybridity and supranational formations, such as the Black Atlantic, diasporas, exile and statelessness. It thus constituted a dynamic intersection of artistic, ideological and philosophical perspectives on decolonisation.

MM 2023 speakers included Surafel Abebe, Nadi Abusaada, Mahvish Ahmad, Esra Akcan, Kamran Ali, Anna Arabindan-Kesson, Tayeba Begum Lipi, Eddie Chambers, Margo Crawford, Iftikhar Dadi, Manthia Diawara, Patrick Flores, Anthony Gardner, Terri Geis, Atreyee Gupta, Elizabeth Harney, John Harvey, Suha Hasan, Brent Hayes Edwards, Heather Igloliorte, Christopher J.
