This monograph covers close to two decades of Zineb Sedira’s practice, a selection of which was exhibited in a major survey exhibition at the Sharjah Art Foundation, curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah Art Foundation. For over 17 years, Sedira has explored notions of family, tradition, oral history, migration and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge, often through a personal lens. The monograph has been edited by Sarah Zürcher and includes scholarly essays by Glenn Lowry, Marie Muracciole, and Morad Montazami and a conversation with Hoor Al Qasimi. It features seminal works such as Mother Tongue (2002), Saphir (2006) and Image Keepers (2010), recent sculptures and installations as well as rarely seen videos such as The End of the Road (2010). The monograph also includes documentation of three new commissions by the Sharjah Art Foundation – the installations Sunken Stories, Air Affairs and Laughter in Hell.
