Before and After Minimalism was Rasheed Araeen’s first major exhibition in the MENASA region and included works that were created over the course of the artist’s fifty year career. The exhibition featured early paintings and drawings, documentation of participatory and performance works, sculptures from the 1960s and a sculpture specially commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation. This booklet accompanied the exhibition and it includes an interview between Hoor Al Qasimi and Araeen, as well as descriptions and visuals of the works that were on view.
This first major exhibition of the artist's work in the MENASA includes seminal sculptures, early paintings and drawings as well as a new sculpture specially commissioned for Sharjah.
Known for his formal geometric sculptures made from simple materials, Rasheed Araeen is widely considered to be an early pioneer of minimalism.
Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, established the Foundation in 2009 as a catalyst and advocate for the arts in Sharjah, in the region and around the world.
