Event Description

Chaos into Clarity: Re-Possessing a Funktioning Utopia is an investigation of the ‘Aesthetic of Funk’. It explores the radical power of transformation, the theme of transcendence and the presentation of a new world material culture as seen through the works of three artists from the African Diaspora: American textile artist Xenobia Bailey, Moroccan-born photographer and designer Hassan Hajjaj and British Trinidadian filmmaker and sculptor Zak Ové.

Join artist Xenobia Bailey as she talks about her practice at The Archive on Thursday, 24 October at 7:00 pm

This exhibition was curated by Shannon Ayers Holden as part of a project with Campus Art Dubai. Campus Art Dubai is held in partnership with Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.

Speaker

Xenobia Bailey is an artist, designer and cultural activist. A fibre artist, much of Xenobia’s practice is informed by her very particular aesthetic as an African American woman artist working in the traditionally viewed cottage craft of crochet. Creating installations, wall hangings and carpets, Bailey’s work is often connected to her ongoing project Paradise under Reconstruction in the Aesthetic of Funk.
