The year-long SB13 School is an important component in curator Christine Tohme’s expanded format for Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj.

Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) is pleased to announce the opening week programme and full list of participating artists for Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj.

Taking place at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal, Vive l’Indépendance de l’Eau [Long Live the Independence of Water] is the first of the four Sharjah Biennial 13 off-site projects.

Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) opened the March Project 2016 exhibition on Saturday, 12 November 2016. Mentored by Mohamed Al Mazroui, Lara Khalidi and Patricia Millns, five artists, from the UAE, Egypt and Palestine participated in the third edition of SAF’s annual education residency programme.

The Khartoum School: The Making of the Modern Art Movement in Sudan (1945–Present), Kamala Ibrahim Ishaq: Women in Crystal Cubes and Amir Nour: A Retrospective (1965–Present): Brevity is the Soul of Wit opened at Sharjah Art Foundation on Saturday, 12 November 2016, in the presence of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the UAE Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Sharjah Biennial 13, Tamawuj, will unfold in five parts from October 2016 through October 2017, encompassing exhibitions and a public programme in two acts in Sharjah and Beirut; a year-long educational programme in Sharjah; projects in Dakar, Ramallah, Istanbul and Beirut; and an online publishing platform.

Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) will present a strong lineup of exhibitions in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, throughout Fall 2016, including solo shows by Arnulf Rainer, Kamal Youssef, Enrico David, Robert Breer, Yayoi Kusama, Kamala Ishaq and Amir Nour.

In collaboration with the Fine Arts sector of the Ministry of Culture in Egypt and the American University in Cairo (AUC), Sharjah Art Foundation is organizing a major traveling exhibition entitled When Art Becomes Liberty: The Egyptian Surrealists (1938-1965).

March Meeting 2016: Education, Engagement and Participation

Sharjah Art Foundation announces the 9th annual March Meeting, taking place 12-13 March, 2016. Over 40 speakers including artists and art practitioners from the UAE and around the world will gather to discuss important issues and questions around this year’s theme.

As presented by the National Pavilion UAE la Biennale di Venezia at the 56th International Art Exhibition 2015, commissioned by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation and supported by the UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development.
