The Sharjah Art Foundation Film Programme is now bringing scheduled screenings to audiences at home. Part of SAF Online, the Foundation’s initiative to connect with visitors digitally, the programme allows anyone to enjoy a range of award-winning independent films and cinema classics to livestream screenings on any digital device.
Screening online this Friday, 3 April 2020 is the acclaimed documentary film The Three Disappearances of Soad Hosni (2011), directed by Rania Stephan. This film delves deep into the controversial life of Soad Hosni, famously known as the ‘Cinderella of Egyptian Cinema’, and uses the technique of filmic montage to create a moving portrait of the actress, addressing the rumours surrounding her lifestyle and the mystery behind her death. Part of the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection, this film was co-commissioned by the Foundation, produced by Joun Films, and co-produced by the Beirut-based Arab Fund for Art & Culture (AFAC), The Post Office and forward Production, with the support of CNC, Paris; FIDLab, Marseille; and Serpentine Gallery, London.
The long-form narrative film, The Landing (2019), directed by renowned artist Akram Zaatari will be screened online on Friday, 17 April 2020. Commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation for Sharjah Biennial 14, the film takes place in Shaabiyat Al Ghurayfah, a public housing project built in the village of Al Madam in the early 1980s, and reconstitutes historical narratives through sound, visuals and performances and features audio interviews with former residents of the area, which are interspersed throughout the soundtrack of the film.
The French-Senegalese classic Black Girl (1966), directed by Ousmane Semebene, was digitally screened on 27 March 2020. The film tells the story of a young Senegalese woman who moves to France in the hope of a better life.

The screenings start at promptly at 8:30 pm and cannot be streamed on demand. Viewers that join the streaming at a later time will not be able to watch the film from the beginning.
