Overview
In collaboration with the Lamatna Youth Group, Sharjah Art Foundation hosted a Sudanese poetry and music night on Saturday evening, 18 November 2016. After a tour around the latest SAF exhibitions –Amir Nour: Brevity is the Soul of Wit: A Retrospective (1956 – Present) at Bait Al Serkal and Kamala Ibrahim Ishaq: Women in Crystal Cubes and The Khartoum School: The Making of the Modern Art Movement in Sudan (1945 – Present) at SAF Art Spaces – the group were welcomed into the SAF Urban Garden.
The collective social space of SAF Urban Garden was transformed to accommodate over 150 participants, with a setup of garden-inspired pallet tables, traditional majlis-style seating and scattered ottomans. Co-curator of the exhibitions, Dr Salah M. Hassan, offered a brief overview of the exhibitions, and participants were invited to sit and enjoy renditions of traditional Sudanese music and poetry. The performances by the young musicians and writers were attended by many of the exhibiting artists as well as regular visitors to SAF Art Spaces, who were attracted by the harmonious voices and soulful music coming from the Urban Garden.
Lamatna Youth Group are a Sudanese arts and culture organisation dedicated to presenting homegrown and international Sudanese talent all over the UAE.
