Biography
Arias & Aragón, the Lima-based artist collective consisting of Susana Aragón and Adrián Arias, was interested in the absurd and in generating visual poetry. Considered pioneers of video art in Peru, the artists created more than 50 videos between 1988 and 2002.
The collective’s work has been the subject of 29 solo and 54 group exhibitions. They also created 22 multi-disciplinary performances and shows as well as 66 video works in Lima. Notable exhibitions include 49th Venice Biennale (2001); 1st Ibero American Biennial, Peru (1997); and Biennial of Fine Arts, Museo de la Nación, Peru (1995).
The artists have received numerous awards, including International Photography Salon, Japan (1995); 6th Salon de Pintura, Peru (1989); and Banpeco Foundation, Peru (1985).
Adrián Arias and Susana Aragón received their BFAs from Universidad Católica del Peru and were recipients of the Artist Passport competition supported by the French embassy in Peru which allowed them to travel to Paris in 1992.
Active in Lima between 1988 and 2002, the artist collective dissolved in 2002.
