Biography
Ryoji Ikeda elaborately orchestrates sound, visuals, materials, physical phenomena and mathematical concepts into immersive live performances and installations. Ikeda has performed and exhibited worldwide, including recently at the Barbican Centre, London, UK (2013); Festival d’Automne, Paris, France (2012); Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, Germany (2012, solo); Park Avenue Armory, New York, USA (2011, solo); Palazzo Grassi, Venice, Italy (2011); Aichi Triennale, Nagoya, Japan (2010); Grec Festival, Barcelona, Spain (2010); Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan (2009, solo); Ars Electronica Center, Linz, Austria (2009, solo); and the Elektra Festival, Montreal, Canada (2009), as well as in small clubs. His albums +/- (1996), 0°C (1998), matrix (2000), dataplex (2005) and test pattern (2008) pioneered a minimal world of electronic music. He won the Golden Nica Award at Ars Electronica in 2001.
