This exhibition booklet is a record of the sixth edition of March Project exhibition. March Project is an educational residency programme that provides opportunities for artists to research, realise and present site-specific works.
Drawing on their various research and artistic practices, the artists in the 2019 edition explored a number of issues, namely, the relationships between architecture, the built environment and the body as well as heritage and contemporary practices that make up our social, visual and cultural fabric.
Participants in the March Project 2019 are Asma Belhamar, Farah Al Qasimi, May Rashed and Saeed Al Madani from the United Arab Emirates, Filwa Nazer from Saudi Arabia and Mario Santanilla from Colombia.
March Project is an educational residency programme that provides opportunities for artists to research, realise and present site-specific works.
Asma Belhamar’s interdisciplinary practice explores the phenomenon of the megastructure in the Emirates and its impact on the topographical memory of local landscapes.
Farah Al Qasimi’s work explores how consumer culture seduces people, particularly women, with promises of beauty or self-improvement.
May Rashed creates works using painting, photography, performance, video and podcasts.
Saeed Almadani’s work comprises a wide range of mediums, including printmaking, sculpture and mixed media.
Ranging from digital print to collage, textile and photography, Filwa Nazer’s work centres around questions of emotional identity in relation to spatial and social contexts.
Mario Santanilla’s practice moves across mediums, rummaging through different layers of space while questioning the conventions of photography, video, sound and installation.
