The Circles of Khor Fakkan - 2004

My son and I would ride our bicycles to this mountainous area in Khor Fakkan and there we made these six different- sized circles. In the future we might add more circles. The idea behind it is the bicycle: the motion of the bicycle. It is about the movement of ideas, of the bicycle, and the very act of carrying these little stones from one place to another. Art is motion; it is walking, riding a bike, realising, thinking, reacting, feeling... Motion! We don’t want to stop, we are in perpetual motion, the geography, the social life of Khor Fakkan, they are all in perpetual motion. The circle has a musical ring; it rotates around a fixed axis. The rocks in Khor Fakkan are naturally round-shaped. Through this piece I want to break out of the circle and communicate my art and thought to the world. My art has everything to do with art history from Paul Cézanne to Richard Long. The circle has a very important geometrical value in our lives. It supplies new vision... the circle is earth; it is the sky; it is the universe.
